His songs are on loop in my head and they have been since I heard the news. Mostly Raspberry Beret, Purple Rain and When Doves Cry. Actually mostly When Doves Cry. That incredible guitar intro, that unmistakable sound, just keeps playing, over and over.
On the night Prince passed, I saw Regurgitator play at the NGV. They played songs by the Velvet Underground and as an encore, they performed When Doves Cry. It was a really great tribute and the perfect way to finish the gig.
The Sunday of that same weekend, Ava and I had a big painting session, while listening to Prince. What an artist. What an inspiration. What a performer. What a showman. Wow!
It seems so apt that he wrote the lyrics to Nothing Compares To You, and now we can turn those brilliant words back to him. In my opinion, the only person who came close to him was David Bowie. And how incredibly sad, that both of them are now gone.
Although I didn’t know him, he sure did make an impact of my young life. His music was, still is, and will always be part of me. RIP you amazing human.
