The last week hasn’t exactly gone to plan. I’ve torn the intercostal muscles between my ribs and it’s highly likely I’ve cracked a rib too. Really? What did I do to piss someone off this time? Haven’t I had my fair share of injuries over the last 5 years? (Insert emoji with gritted teeth here). A friend messaged me on Facebook saying ‘you’re becoming a war veteran’. He’s not wrong!
So other than coughing really hard for about 8 weeks, I cannot for the life of me understand how I’ve managed it. Even my GP is baffled, so he sent me off for a chest and rib x-ray yesterday afternoon. Fingers crossed it’s nothing sinister.
I’ve been in serious pain since Monday and luckily the GP prescribed some hard core pain killers. These have helped with the pain but I’ve also felt super woozy and really out of it for the last few days.
On the flipside, you just gotta laugh when something like this happens. The pharmacist warned me I might get ‘a little bound up’ and every time I go to the toilet and struggle to push one out – all I keep thinking is, this could make for a funny blog post.
So folks, if you suddenly end up with torn intercostals and/or a cracked rib, here are some things you’ll need to know. It hurts to:
– blow your nose
– go to the toilet (number twos is murderous!)
– sneeze (hold onto your ribs real tight)
– clean your teeth
– get in and out of the car
– bend over
– get dressed
– have a shower
– walk up and down stairs
– unpack the dishwasher
– load and unload the washing machine.
I think you get the point.
AND don’t get me started with looking after Ava – the list would go on forever.
Most everyday activities become a serious pain in the proverbial, but I’ve been super lucky that Mum has been here to help with Ava and also look after me. She is amazing, but is also now, very tired!
So I’m waiting for the results of my x-ray, which will reveal whether I fractured a rib or not. If yes, the healing process will take 6-8 weeks. Lucky me! If not, it’s still going to take a few weeks to right itself, SIGH!
Got any injuries you’d care to share? Or just wanna have a whinge? Go!
