Last Friday we spent the day at Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium as part of the new ‘Grown Ups Go Free’ campaign brought to you by Kellogg’s.
So what’s it all about? As we all know, family outings can become quite expensive, especially if you have more than one child. With this and the Christmas school holidays in mind, Kellogg’s has come up with a great new promotion which is a real bonus for parents.
If you purchase a specially marked Kellogg’s ‘Grown Ups Go Free’ box of cereal, inside you’ll find a free adult ticket to your choice of over 90 popular attractions across Australia. When you buy a full price child or adult ticket at one of the participating venues, you get another adult ticket for free!
So, back to our visit to Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, where Mum and her partner joined Ava and I for the day. We explored all of the different habitat zones and saw creatures of all kinds, some majestic and some more ferocious!
We saw sharks, seahorses, anemone clownfish (‘It’s Nemo Mum!’), stingrays, tree snakes, starfish, frogs, eels, penguins, turtles, puffer fish, coral, moon jellyfish and a huge saltwater crocodile called ‘Pinjarra’ who is over 5 metres long!
Ava’s faves were the penguins and Pinjarra. From the gift shop, I bought Ava a baby penguin soft toy and we went home and watched Happy Feet as a special ‘Friday night at the movies’ treat.
I also had the opportunity to chat with former Australian Olympian Melinda Gainsford-Taylor about her involvement with the promotion. Here’s a few words from Melinda.
Where were you born? And where do you live now?
I was born in a little country town called Narromine in Central West NSW. I now live at Collaroy Plateau on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I started running when I was 9 years old and I just loved it. My coach Jackie who started coaching me from that age, said I told her that I wanted to run at the Olympics one day. So obviously that is what I wanted to do when I grew up.
How many children do you have and how old are they?
I have two children Nicholas is 13 and Gabriella is 10
What’s your favourite activity to do with your children?
To be honest with you, any activity that we can be together. Life is so busy, you get caught up in routines and don’t take enough time to be together. That is why I think it is incredibly important to make it a priority to do activities with your children.
What’s the most rewarding thing about being a mother?
Having children is the best thing I have ever done. I find being a mum very rewarding. I am very lucky to have wonderful children who appreciate everything I do for them. I love helping them to grow and develop but most of all I just want them to be happy.
Do you have any tips for cost effective things to do with your children during the school holidays?
If you buy a specially marked pack of Kellogg’s cereal you will receive an adults ticket when you buy an adult or child ticket to 90 attractions across Australia. For example you can take your family to Madam Tussaud’s, Wildlife Sydney or Sea Life Aquarium. What a perfect way to spend the holidays and save money with the Grown Ups Go Free Campaign. I have already booked in a couple of days for us over the holidays.
How do you find balance between working and motherhood? (As both are full time jobs!)
I try to be as organised as I can, which isn’t always easy. When things get overwhelming I find doing lists and ticking them off is effective. When things are chaotic I take a deep breath and try to enjoy every moment of it because life is too short.
What’s your favourite part of the day?
At night after dinner when the whole family are sitting in the lounge room together.
Thanks so much to Melinda for taking the time out to chat to us.
So, look out for specially-marked packs of Just Right, Corn Flakes, Coco Pops, Crunchy Nut, Nutri-Grain and Rice Bubbles to find your voucher. It’s almost like finding the golden ticket in a bar of Willy Wonka chocolate!
AND… Thanks to Kellogg’s we have 5 double passes to Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium to give away. For your chance to WIN, come and say hi over on Instagram.
You can find out more about the campaign here.
PS – Vouchers are valid until 30 June 2016, so you’ll have plenty of time to use them.
