Lately it’s been a little quiet on the gig front, but two weeks ago I was lucky enough to see Blur play live as a birthday present from Ava’s Dad. They have been on my bucket list for like, ever, and I’m so glad I finally got to see them.
Wow, wow and wow! What an awesome gig. Sometimes I’m in two minds about seeing bands that have been around forever and were great back in the day. But not Blur, they were amazing and from the very first song I was loving every minute and singing along.
They played a really good mix of old and new tracks and it wasn’t long before the crowd was up on their feet, waving their hands in the air. The stage looked great and the mirror balls were in spectacular effect on songs like ‘The Universal’. I’ve got goosebumps just thinking about it.
‘Song 2’ went OFF and the mosh pit was heaving. I love it that they have such variety in their music from sweet ballads, to rockin’ riffs to quirky tracks like ‘Parklife’ (where a few lucky punters from the crowd got to sing with the band!).
The addition of amazing back-up singers and horns made for a very entertaining show. And Damon Albarn is such a brilliant front man. He made the stage crew earn their keep, with some pretty crazy climbing-into-the-crowd antics during a few songs. One of the crew guys spent most of one song holding onto Albarn’s jeans pockets while he stood up and sang right into the front row.
I took quite a few videos at the gig and I keep going back to watch them. I wish I could watch them play all over again and wouldn’t hesitate to book tickets if they come back to Australia.
So what gig are on the horizon? I’m going to see Jack Ladder and The Dreamlanders in September and I can’t wait! After that there’s nothing booked, so I need to check out who’ll be next on my list.
Have you been to any good gigs lately?
