At work, via Spotify, we listen to a really broad range of music and it’s so good, because we play it loud. This week one of my colleagues recommended great new tunes from some local Australian bands, and I’m so glad she did.
Pearls would have to be my fave and I love it that they’re from Melbourne too. Their tunes are really memorable with very cool melodies. With a great mix of female and male vocals, their sound is a little bit glam-rock, a little bit dark and moody and a little bit pop. I’ll be looking them up and hope to catch them live soon. Here’s their song ‘Big Shot’ and ‘Albion’.
Dorsal Fins are a 10-piece band, also from Melbourne. Their song ‘Nothing Left To Hide’ hooked me in the first time I heard it. Made up of members from bands such as Eagle & The Worm, Saskwatch, The Bamboos, and New Gods, how can you go wrong? I can highly recommend their super catchy and fun tunes. Their song ‘Monday Tuesday’ keeps popping into my head and makes me wanna get up and dance.
Perth band Methyl Ethel are a bit more on the quiet side. A little bit lo-fi with memorable hooks, their tunes are cruisy and catchy at the same time. Their song ‘Rogues’ is really cool.
Thanks to Bonnie for these awesome new tunes tips, I’m always up for supporting great local talent.
Stay tuned folks xo
