Ava has been to a number of Frozen-themed parties over the last year. When I asked her what she wanted to do for her own birthday, she asked if she could have a Frozen party. ‘Really?’ I said.
After watching the movie countless times and listening to the soundtrack for the 286th time, it was this week when it suddenly hit me. The lyrics in the hit song ‘Let It Go’ not only relate to Elsa and little girls all over the world, they also relate to us grown up girls too.
I stopped and listened to it with a different perspective and found myself thinking that there are actually some really good messages in the lyrics. ‘It’s time to see what I can do, to test the limits and break through’ is great and I can totally relate to that right now.
Apart from the more literal temperature references, there are a lot of positive messages about being strong, standing on your own two feet, pushing boundaries, not being worried about what people think of you and being empowered to do it your way.
I really like this bit about having no fear and taking control of your own destiny. It’s probably a bit lost on the little ones but it speaks to me on a number of levels.
‘It’s funny how some distance, makes everything seem small.
And the fears that once controlled me, can’t get to me at all
It’s time to see what I can do,
to test the limits and break through.
No right, no wrong, no rules for me. I’m free!
And you know what ‘Here I stand and here I’ll stay’ is so strong. Too right Elsa, you’re onto something there!
