Last weekend we went on a mini road trip to Queenscliff, which is an hour and a half drive south of Melbourne. Dan and I had a voucher to use for an overnight stay at the Vue Grand, so we decided to turn it into a family weekend.
We stopped in Ocean Grove for lunch and got to the hotel around 2ish. A bit tired from a long week, we all crashed in our room and just chilled out. It was really good to take stock and relax as we often try to pack too much into these little weekenders.
We didn’t have to venture too far (down the stairs) for dinner at the Vue Street Bar. After a good pig out on tapas and pizza we headed back to our room to put Miss Ava to bed, which was a bit of a challenge as I forgot to pack the bedtime stories (whoops!). We managed to find some fairy tales online so all was ok in the end. Thank goodness for the gadgets!
The rest of the night was very quiet with Dan and I watching shows on our gadgets through our earphones with the only light in the room coming from our screens, ha! Not ideal but it was only one night and as were all in the one room, it was tricky to watch the actual TV without disturbing Ava.
Breakfast on Sunday morning was in the lovely old school Grand Dining Room and Ava was a little wide-eyed at some of the features. From the high ceiling, blue painted walls, bronze statues to the grand piano, it was all very different to our last trip to the Murray River.
After breakfast, Dan took Ava to the waterfront for a play at the beach park and I had a mooch along the main street. I grabbed a really good coffee from Belsize & Co and hit Eddie’s Emporium, a vintage collectables/antiques store which was laden with amazing things. What a collection they had, I could have spent hours in there. I found some Enid Blyton books that I read when I was young and bought some for Ava. I also found a lovely old edition of Little Women with a gorgeous illustration on the cover.
The weather wasn’t that good, so early afternoon we decided to hit the road and come home. In hindsight it may have been better to go on our own as Ava has been a little trying (to put it mildly!) of late. But hey, you live and learn xo
