Last week was a big music week for me&mygirl with a (grown up) gig and a family friendly music festival all in one weekend. Great for me as I would happily go to a gig every week if I could.
On Saturday night I saw the Foo Fighters play at Etihad Stadium. I’ve seen them a few times over the years including Earl’s Court in London nearly ten years ago now. The last gig was a couple of years ago at AAMI Stadium but this week’s gig was the biggest crowd/venue by far. If I’m honest I don’t love those big stadium gigs but would never pass up the opportunity to see ‘your mate Dave’ as Dan calls him.
The stadium was pumping and so were the band, who played a mix of old classics, songs from the new album Sonic Highways and even a few covers. I tend to favour the older hits which was great because they played My Hero, Monkey Wrench, Big Me, Learn To Fly, This Is A Call, Times Like These and my all time fave Everlong which was such a brilliant way to end the show.
It’s hard to believe they have been around for 21 years but at the same time when you see them play live, it’s easy to see why they are one of the biggest bands in the world. They give a lot, have so much energy and you can just tell they love the whole live experience. And Dave’s banter is always amusing and gets the crowd up on their feet from the very first song.
OK enough about my mate Dave and worth mentioning that it was a bonus to see The Delta Riggs play the first support slot. They were really fun and I love supporting Aussie music, so I made sure we got there early to see them.
Stay tuned for more on the music festival, that’s a post in itself!
