The last couple of weeks have been busy but not crazy busy. When it’s crazy busy, sometimes the tunes tend to match the speed of life flying by. But this week’s tunes have been a lot more chilled out.
Boy & Bear’s ‘Harlequin Dream’ was on a few days in a row which always seems to have a calming effect on me. They are one of Ava’s favourite bands too, I know she likes their songs but I think she likes their name more!
I love the Arctic Monkeys, even if lead singer Alex Turner seems like a bit of a prat in real life. A couple of years ago, a friend who lives in London sent Dan the Submarine EP for his birthday. The EP has six original songs by (a solo) Alex Turner which were featured in the film Submarine (also part of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival). The songs are very different from his usual rock & roll style revealing a softer acoustic feel with his signature wordsmith-y style lyrics. One of the songs, Piledriver Waltz, was even re-recorded and featured on the Arctic Monkeys album ‘Suck It & See’. I love this EP and play it all the time. If you don’t have it, do check it out.
Another favourite this week was ‘Keep It Hid’, the debut solo album by Dan Auerbach – the lead singer of The Black Keys. If there was one band that has been on a seriously high rotation over the last few years it would have to be The Black Keys, everything they produce is awesome. Dan Auerbach’s voice is so unmistakable and just exudes cool, basically he rocks! This album has a really laid back feel and if you like The Black Keys, then you should buy this too.
Also on the decks this week:

Vance Joy – God Loves You When You’re Dancing (EP)

Stay tuned peeps xx
