Whenever I suggest to Ava that we bake something sweet, she’s in and she’s off to find our aprons. I am not exactly Betty Crocker and sometimes refer to myself as ‘baking-challenged’ but through more practice with Ava, I am definitely improving.
My lovely friend Caitlyn (also known as Toots and Auntie Toots to Ava) is VERY skilled at baking. Last year on a recent stay with us (while over from WA), she had promised to make chocolate brownies for a friend’s wedding and asked if she could make them at ours. With no hesitation from me, I said yes (with a pure motive of scoring a few for us, ha!).
So with Ava as sous chef, Auntie Toots went to work. I have never seen so many brownies nor smelled anything that delicious coming from my kitchen. OH MY! And Ava was in heaven, helping to measure, sift and stir the mix and of course the biggest score of all – licking the bowl!
In the end, we scored lots of off-cuts. Those lovely little edge bits that weren’t perfect enough to display at the wedding – what a shame!
Afterwards we all went for a coffee (and cino) and I love the shot I captured of the two of them. They almost look related with their strawberry blonde hair, brown eyes and super happy smiles.
You can come back any time Auntie Toots. We miss you lots xoxo
PS – Apologies for the quality of the images in this post, they were taken on my phone and are not the best. They are however a lovely reminder of how much we love our Auntie Toots. I can’t believe how much Ava has grown up since then!
