When I get home from work I have about an hour and a half (to myself) before I pick up Ava and that’s usually when I turn up the volume and play what I want to play. It’s been a busy week with way too much on, so the tunes have been pumping like crazy and I definitely work (on the blog) better with noise around me.
I’ll be the first to admit that a lot of my music collection is not exactly appropriate for 4 year olds, however this week’s favourites are pretty much OK for Ava. With a mix of some old and some new tunes, the playlist included Spoon, The Delta Riggs, Galaxie 500 and The Dirty Three.
I’ve been loving the new Spoon album ‘They Want My Soul’ which is typical of previous Spoon tunes. Their tunes are always good fun. ‘Dipz Zebazios’ by Melbourne band The Delta Riggs has been on high rotation at home and in the car. You can’t go wrong with an album that’s a little bit Supergrass and a little bit Beastie Boys. I actually bought both CDs for Dan for Christmas which is a bit old school so it was nice to be able to photograph the artwork sleeves.
While spring cleaning I found a stack of CDs and dug out The Dirty Three’s ‘Lowlands’, an evocative mix of instrumental tracks that always transport me somewhere else.
I also found ‘On Fire’ by Galaxie 500, beautiful melodic tunes that take me straight back to hanging out with muso mates in the late 90s. Ah, those were the days!
Also on the decks this week:
Fugazi – 13 Songs
The Fauves – The Young Need Discipline
The Arcade Fire – Funeral
The National – Trouble Will Find Me
Stay tuned peeps xx
