You may remember that I mentioned the shop Daiso in a previous post, The Craft Box.
I LOVE this shop and will happily get lost in there on any given day. It’s based on the 100 Yen Store from Japan with everything in the shop costing only $2.80 per item. They have all manner of stuff from decorative manila folders to crazy animal-shaped bath sponges, Hello Kitty band-aids and some really interesting Japanese snack foods.
They have an amazing selection of art and craft supplies and all with such lovely packaging. Recently I’ve picked up origami kits, fuzzy pipe cleaners, embossing stamps, patterned plastic sleeves, MT tape (a small scale decorative/fancy version of masking tape), art paper pads, oil crayons and so much more.
My favourite find was a pack of pre-cut coloured paper strips to create paper chain decorations. Ava and I had a ball creating chains and we hung them all over the house. We used patterned MT tape to stick the pieces together, which added a unique touch to the overall look of the chains. It’s an easy craft exercise which is fun and great for little hands to further develop dexterity.
Ava also made her own fun and made shapes by joining the flat strips together. She made a square shape and then decided to make it into a frame for one of her ‘artworks’. I wouldn’t have thought to do this but that’s the beauty of making stuff with kids, as they tend to create their own fun with such simple supplies.
My top tip – Daiso is a great place to buy gifts, especially for small peeps that enjoy creating. At just $2.80 per item, you can’t go wrong).
