Welcome to the first ‘On The Decks This Week’ post.
By now, you may have worked out that the golden years of my childhood were spent having fun in the 80s. The fashion was out there (to say the least!) and all about pastels, lace, fluoro socks, fingerless gloves, lycra, off the shoulder sweaters, crazy mismatched patterns, ruffle skirts and a tonne of bangles up your arm.
This week has been a tough one for our family so there haven’t been any tunes from The Smiths or The Cure on our playlist. Instead we have turned our clocks back to the early 80s to the original Material Girl whose music and fashion inspired a revolution in mine and millions of other 12-year-old girls’ bedrooms. (Yes, they are my prized 7″ records above).
You can’t go past Lucky Star, Borderline and Holiday to put a smile on your face. Ava’s love of (and I quote) ‘girl singers’ has now extended to early Madonna and has led to a couple of silly dancing sessions. Both ended up in fits of laughter (mostly Ava laughing at me) as I make a complete fool of myself to entertain her.
Also on the decks this week:
Boy and Bear – Harlequin Dream
Superchunk – On the Mouth
The Black Keys – El Camino
The Killers – Hot Fuss
The Strokes – Is This It?
Stay ˆ peeps xx
