About six months ago if you asked Ava who her favourite bands were she would have proudly said the Foo Fighters and the Arctic Monkeys and she would go on to tell you the names of the lead singers from both bands.
Now it’s a slightly different story and Ava recently declared that she prefers to listen to ‘girl’ singers. She loves Adele, who is an amazing woman with an incredible voice, but I thought I would see what other ‘girl’ singers she might like.
I decided to give Lorde a go and bingo, she seemed to like it and started humming along. She was confused about the name ‘Lorde’, so I explained that her real name was Ella. So now she asks ‘Mum, can we listen to Ella?’ (not Lorde, like she’s on a first name basis with her, ha!).
I have also been playing The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Breeders, Mazzy Star, Belly and Garbage. I think some early Madonna may be in order too, however I don’t actually have any of her music in my iTunes library. I only have records and tapes and no equipment to play them on (I’m definitely showing my age now!).
Oh and speaking of girl singers, I almost forgot that naturally we have to listen to the soundtrack from Frozen at least twice a week. ‘Do you want to build a snowman?’ seems to stick in my head and most days I go to bed singing it, eek! A good friend recently recommended an app called Buddhify, which is a series of different meditation tracks. The ‘going to sleep’ tracks seem to help me forget about Elsa, Anna and Olaf as I try to relax and head off to the land of nod.
Happy Thursday peeps x
