We are back from our trip to NZ and it’s all about fashion right now at the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. I still can’t believe we get a public holiday for a horse race but it gives me a good excuse to write this post, ha!
I do like to see what the ladies are wearing during the racing season, in particular their choice of hats. Some are sophisticated and stylish and some are downright ridiculous, but entertaining nonetheless.
We are going to a BBQ at a friend’s place today and we have been encouraged to wear a hat. My hat collection consists of a black cowboy hat, a chequered trilby, a cream fedora, a tattered sun hat (I bought in Thailand 5 years ago) and various winter beanies and berets. But, something tells me none of these will fit the bill for race day.
Enter my light bulb moment when doing some filing – we do have the perfect hats! Our handmade crown and Pocahontas-inspired headband (from our ‘You can call me Queen Bee’ post) totally fit the bill for Melbourne Cup Day. Ava wanted both of us to wear a crown so I whipped one up for me this morning using fake flowers, patterned MT tape, fluoro dot stickers and sequins – voila.
Maybe you and your little ladies will be inspired to make some of your own wonderful creations. Hope you pick a winner and happy Cup Day xx
PS – Stay tuned for more about our trip to NZ, as it really is a fab place to take small peeps.
