Recently my Mum and I took Ava to Short Round (in Thornbury) and we loved it. It was very kid-friendly which is a must when you have a 4 year old. The waitress overheard me say Ava’s name and came straight over and said ‘what would you like Ava?’. The look on Ava’s face was priceless and she instantly felt special. We were off to a good start.
It’s a lovely space with options for hanging out indooors and outdoors and the outdoor area is a nice little sun trap on warm days. We were there for brunch and the menu is a really nice mix of usual breakfast fare and other more interesting savoury and sweet options.
I ordered a sweet brekky of house-made waffles, tea-soaked prunes, vanilla marscapone and maple syrup topped with a very fine toffee. WOW! What an amazing flavour fix and of course Ava was transfixed by the delicate sugar-spun-style toffee resting on top. Ava decided she wanted to combine elements of my meal and hers. So, she took a little bit of waffle, piled bacon and mushrooms on and topped it off with a little bit of toffee. Voila!
